The estate “Il Sosso” is situated amongst the vaste hills of the Tuscan landscape in the heart of the green vineyards in the Arretine area of Chianti, and specifically in the Commune of Lucignano, an exquisitely beautiful mediaeval historic centre. The land belonging to the estate falls mainly on the hillside and surround the beautiful Leopoldino-style farmhouse built in the second half of eighteen century. The Farm has been owned by the Ravaglioli family for three generations, and exactly since 1965, the year in which the property was purchased, is paid the same endless passion to the cultivation of the vineyards and striving continuously for quality. Even today it’s managed with competence and sensitivity but above all with the humility of those continually forces to improve.

The estate extends in total for approximately 45 hectares. Twenty-five hectares are cultivated as vineyards, and the rest divided between woods and olive grove. The vine varieties cultivated are: Sangiovese (the variety present in greatest numbers), Colorino, Montepulciano, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay and Viognier. The morphology of the land on which the wines are growing has a medium textured soil with layers of loam, volcanic tuff, and clay, and the position halfway up a hill, together with optimal microclimatic conditions, is ideal for ripening grapes.
